About
Matt Brown began making woodblock prints using the traditional Japanese Hanga Method in 1993, and now teaches color printmaking to artists all over New England. The Hanga printmaking style relies on a water-based ink, creating a gentle, painterly effect. Each print is hand rubbed, and often requires 10 or more separate blocks to accomplish the full range of color.
He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, and worked as a carpenter, cabinet-maker, and builder. He is inspired by the landscapes of New England, particularly the White Mountains in his home state of New Hampshire.
